About Audio Noise Gate
The Audio Noise Gate is a precision tool designed to eliminate background noise during silent passages of a recording. Unlike a noise reducer that tries to filter out noise while someone is speaking, a noise gate simply 'closes' (silences the output) when the input level falls below a certain threshold. This is perfect for cleaning up vocal tracks in a podcast or music production, removing room hiss, fan noise, or distant traffic between words. Our tool uses the professional FFmpeg 'agate' algorithm, giving you control over the Threshold and Ratio for a natural-sounding result. Built with a focus on privacy, the entire gating process occurs locally on your machine, ensuring your private recordings never leave your browser.
How to use Audio Noise Gate
- Upload the recording you want to clean up using the secure file picker.
- Set the 'Gate Threshold' to a level just above the background noise but below the main content (typically -30dB to -40dB).
- Adjust the 'Reduction Ratio' to decide how aggressively to silence the noise.
- Click the 'Apply Noise Gate' button to process the audio in your browser.
- Preview the clean results and download your professional-grade audio file.
